Our History: A Tradition of Excellence in Maine Real Estate

The Malone family’s legacy in Maine real estate began back in 1960, when Ronald Malone launched his career as a sales agent with the Glenwood Agency. His wife Helen soon joined the industry as an agent with the Star Agency. In 1970 and with 15 years of experience between them, the Malones decided to open the doors to their own residential real estate company: Malone Real Estate.

Maintaining rental properties soon became a family affair. Over the years, Joe and Mark Malone helped their parents by painting walls and mowing lawns. The brothers didn’t yet know that the real estate business would become a lifelong career for them both.

Years later, with a degree and background in criminal justice, Joe Malone turned his focus to the Maine commercial real estate market, realizing it was poised for rapid growth. He followed his passion for real estate development and investing and joined the family enterprise in 1983. When Joe became President the following year, he felt it was time to rename the company to better encompass its services and direction. Malone Commercial Brokers (MCB) was born, with a dedication to a complete range of commercial real estate and investment services.

Mark Malone later made the switch from his career in banking to officially join the family profession. He joined the team in 1989, leveraging his extensive background in finance to serve clients throughout Maine with commercial real estate leasing, sales, and investments. With the addition in 2021 of Joe’s son Luke to the MCB team, a third generation of Malones continues the family tradition.

Today, the iconic red Malone “M” logo can be seen on commercial real estate signs throughout the state, a symbol of local, knowledgeable, and unwavering tried and true real estate expertise in Greater Portland and throughout Maine. The Malone Commercial Brokers team has a combined 300+ years of Maine commercial real estate experience, with a staff of 15 brokers and marketing professionals.
